I found interesting image when I was reading the book “Designing with the Mind in Mind: Simple Guide to Understanding User Interface Design Rules” so I decided to summarise in my own perspective.

Image showing the effect of mental priming of the visual system.

What do you see?

So in this image, theres a Dalmatian dog sniffing the ground near a tree. Dalmatian dog has instantly appeared as I was told that there is a Dalmatian dog sniffing the ground. Once you’ve “seen” the dog, it is hard to go back to seeing the image as a random collection of spots. This is called the human perceptual system.

In this experimentation, it is apparent that visual system organize the image into a coherent picture once you know what you expect to see. The most important part is when your brain is trying to figure out the image as you can see things in many different ways. It is vital as a designer to be able to break the conceptual thinking to view things from different perspectives to become more creative.
